An African Jacana's typical habitate is shallow water in marshy areas. It is very adept at using small bits of vegetation to support it as it skims over the water looking for insects & small crustaceans. This species has an unusual polyandric relationships with more than one male at a time, and will produce eggs from any one or several of its several male escorts. [Khwai, Moremi NP, Botswana].
Two African Jacana's flying in to join two others on the ground. It is common to see them in small groups. The ones on the ground are juveniles, probably belonging to the two adults
