This male Spottedbacked Weaverbird has just finished builing these two nests. We watched him for a while, as he unsuccessfully tried to induce one of the females nearby to join him. [Matusadona, Zim].
Before it collapsed, the Social Weaver Birds had a huge aggregation of nests when we first saw it. The next day, the left limb had broken off and was lying on the ground. All the birds were gone. [Etosha NP, Namibia].
This is one of hundreds of Social Weavers that had been inhabiting the huge nest. The peering bird was the only one I could photograph. The nest was so huge that when we came to this site the next day for more pictures, we found that the entire bough had broken off, and the huge nest was lying on the ground. All the birds were gone!
